St Michael & All Angels is busy throughout the year, as a community centre as well as a place of worship. Every month, there are concerts and events in the Church and Parish Hall, as well as regular classes and courses on everything from Scottish Country Dancing and Opera to Pilates and Yoga. Thursday 8th December:
St Nicholas comes to Chiswick
St Nicholas - the original and real Father Christmas - came to Chiswick on Thursday (above and right). Three local primary schools - Chiswick and Bedford Park, Belmont, and Orchard House met him at the church at 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30 respectively, with parents and teachers. St Nicholas arrived by horse and carriage and was welcomed by the Vicar, Head teachers, and the local Mayors. Inside the church the children heard the story of St Nicholas and each received some chocolate coins.
A retiring collection was taken in aid of St Michael's and its Christmas charities. Sponsorship was kindly provided by a range of local businesses. Young's Veterinary Partnership marked its expansion at Bedford Corner after more than 30 years by sponsoring St Nicholas's horse and carriage. Starbucks, Marks & Spencer and Divine Fairtrade Chocolate provided chocolate coins and we are also grateful for the support of the Park Club and Westway Stables, Shepherd's Bush.
On Advent Sunday, November 27th, we welcomed as our Celebrant and Preacher the Rt Revd Paul Williams, Bishop of Kensington. He opened the first door in St Michael's Advent Calendar, (right), in aid of St Michael's Christmas Appeal.
