The Performers

Emma Cartwright – soprano
Emma Cartwright sings in St Michael and All Angels church choir in Barnes. On leaving university, she was fortunate to have singing lessons with Susan McCulloch, Professor of Voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as well as Performance Consultant at the Royal Opera House. Before taking up the post of Chief Executive at The Mulberry Centre in November 2011 she was involved in local amateur dramatics at Wimbledon Theatre and Putney Arts Theatre.

Bryony Moody – cello
Bryony read Music at the University of Leeds, gaining a first class BMus degree. She studied the cello with Sue Lowe and spent a year in Strasbourg, learning with Frank van Lamsveerde. Bryony performs regularly as a freelance cellist in London and the South West. Bryony is performing regularly as a freelance cellist in the South West and London, whilst also teaching the cello, chamber music and classroom music at Bryanston School and Streatham and Clapham High School.

Alistair Bown – trumpet & vocals
Alistair played in the National Children’s Orchestra and later, aged 10, won a County scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music, Junior Department. He studied Law at the University of Wales, before going on to complete the LPC (Law School) at Chester. After a few career changes he succumbed to his passion for building but still finds time to enjoy his love of music and sport. He now runs Bown Design & Build a local construction company which enjoys great links with the local community through sponsorship and charitable events.

Daphne Moody – violin
Daphne first studied the violin with Alfred de Reyghere and later at the Royal Academy of Music with Sydney Humphries and Frederick Grinke. Following a short period in Canada with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra she returned to England to freelance with the Hallé, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and London Festival Orchestra, the latter with whom she toured extensively. She is now leader of La Folia and the Eberle Quartet, which has recorded to critical acclaim with the Naim label.

Lara Marie Müller – soprano
Lara Marie Müller is in her third year of the vocal undergraduate course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and studies with John Evans. She is also a member of the National Youth Theatre and did the foundation course in acting at The Oxford School of Drama. She is half German half British and grew up in Holland where her father is the principal cellist of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. She is kindly supported by The Worshipful Company of Carpenters.

Anne Collard – piano
Anne studied piano and viola at Birmingham Conservatoire and went on to do a Postgraduate Diploma in piano accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music, then the Guildhall School of Music in repetiteur training. In 2002 she relocated to South Wales where she has a successful teaching practice. As a soloist she has won many prizes at prestigious music festivals. She was a finalist in the EU Assoc. of Piano Teachers competition in 2013 and 2014 and in the prestigious Emanuel Piano Trophy in May 2015.

Kate Bown – piano
Kate studied Piano and Singing at the Royal College Of Music and sang with the BBC singers as an Ad Hoc member .Throughout her career she has enjoyed working with a number of contemporary composers and with small groups of singers and instrumentalists . Particularly enjoyable was a series of music cruises she undertook with her sister Daphne Moody and the Amici ensemble .

Graham Currie – tenor
Graham grew up as a chorister in Cumbria, studied at King’s College, London and became a Deputy Headteacher at a School in Surrey. His musical development lay in oratorio work, performing solos in Handel’s ‘Messiah’ for BT ‘Voices for Wales’, in Rachmaninoff’s ‘Vespers’ in Ghent Cathedral, in the Mozart ‘Requiem’ and recently Mendelssohn’s ‘Psalm 95 ‘ in the Kingston area. He now sings with a chamber choir in the City of London.

Hugh Proctor – compere & piano
Hugh Proctor was educated at King’s College School , Wimbledon and University College London, graduating in Statistics. During this time he took part in recitals of the Chamber Music Society. He has a diploma from the London College of Music. Formerly he was Assistant Head of Glyn School, Epsom.

Eric Gilchrist Jazz Quintet
Formed over 20 years ago the quintet plays regularly in central and west London for society events, corporate events, weddings and charities, as well as in jazz clubs. Eric has played throughout the UK and Europe and has supported well-known American jazz musicians and singers when they have been touring the UK. Eric is also a composer and lyricist and has written music and songs for television, radio and video productions.

Max Brittain (guitar)
Max has worked with American jazz guitar giants Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis and Charlie Byrd. His jazz career also includes work with Humphrey Lyttelton, Ronnie Scott and Georgie Fame. He has toured extensively throughout the world in the company of such diverse musical talents as Jamie Callum, Cleo Laine, Val Doonican and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. He has also performed with John Williams at the London Palladium.

John Rees-Jones (double bass) 
Classically trained as a cellist, John toured and recorded with Keith Tippet’s Centipede and appeared with Yehudi Menuhin and Peter Pears. He moved over to double bass and bass guitar in the late 1970s concentrating more on jazz. He was a member of Humphrey Lyttelton’s band for many years and still plays with the Lyttelton tribute band,

Nigel Fox (piano)
Nigel Fox has been on the London jazz scene for over 30 years playing in various combinations from solo piano to big bands at many top jazz clubs including Ronnie Scott’s, the Bull’s Head, Barnes, Pizza-on- the-Park and many more.

Denis Smith (drums)
Denis Smith is one of the finest drummers in the UK and has played all over the world. He has performed on ocean liners which took him to New York and Canada. When Denis returned to the UK he became part of ‘Open Music’ with Bob Downes which led to five years with the London Dance Company. Denis has also played on numerous broadcasts and recordings and worked in the West End.
