Biography

James Todd is currently studying for a Master of Music in Performance at the Royal College of Music, having graduated from the RCM in 2024 with a BMus (Hons). Here he receives tuition from Professors David Graham, Charles Andrews, Martin Ford, and Martin Schmeding and is generously supported by the Richard Newton Scarth Award from the Royal College of Music, as well as several awards from the Royal College of Organists.

James is currently the Organ Scholar at St. John’s, Notting Hill, having previously undertaken Organ Scholarships at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool, and at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Farm Street.

At the end of his third and fourth year of his studies, he was awarded the Harold Darke Prize for Organ and in 2024 was a semi-finalist in the IAO-RCO International Organ Competition. James has also studied on historically significant instruments throughout Europe such as Saint-Sulpice; St. Bavokerk, Haarlem; St. Thomaskirche, Leipzig; and St. Jacobi, Hamburg.

Throughout his studies at the RCM, he has performed with several orchestras, including under the baton of Petrenko, and as the soloist for the Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony with the Orion Orchestra. Additionally, James has previously given recitals at Westminster Abbey; St. Michaeliskirche, Leipzig; St Michael’s, Cornhill; and The Guards’ Chapel.
