We hoped that the creation of this website as a permanent archive will be a valuable resource for exhibition and study material for local schools, researchers, and other groups, and well as of general interest for years to come.<\/p><p>A wealth of information was discovered \u00a0about the 128 different people remembered in the Parish.\u00a0 A majority lived within the Parish boundary, and we found people from all walks of life, involved in the War in a huge variety of ways.\u00a0 All armed services were represented, from <a href=\"https:\/\/smaaa.org.uk\/ww1\/people\/the-parish-fallen\/hazeon-c\/\">Captain Hazeon<\/a>, a Marine Officer on ill-fated HMS Hampshire, sunk with Lord Kitchener aboard;\u00a0 the numerous Subalterns whose life in the field averaged only six weeks, like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/smaaa.org.uk\/ww1\/people\/the-parish-fallen\/robinson-a\/\">Alexander Robinson<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/smaaa.org.uk\/ww1\/people\/the-parish-fallen\/clift-m-r\/\">Maurice Clift<\/a>; or <a href=\"https:\/\/smaaa.org.uk\/ww1\/people\/the-parish-fallen\/lutyens-l\/\">Derek Lutyens<\/a>, a Royal Flying Corps pilot killed while test-flying an aircraft in development;\u00a0 and from the medical, nursing and auxiliary sections of the forces, like our only woman casualty, <a href=\"https:\/\/smaaa.org.uk\/ww1\/people\/the-parish-fallen\/long-v\/\">Mrs. Violet Long<\/a>.\u00a0 We even have our own \u201cWar Poet\u201d,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/smaaa.org.uk\/ww1\/people\/the-parish-fallen\/down-w\/\">William Oliphant Down<\/a>.<\/p><p>We learned of many poignant stories about the many Chiswick and Bedford Park families affected by the War, and also about how the local community viewed the War from the \u201cHome Front\u201d.\u00a0 Certainly, as one of the principal researchers, I have come to regard all the people from our parish community who died in the service of their country\u00a0 as my close friends.<\/p><p>David Beresford<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> David Beresford, the chief researcher, (who died in 2022) wrote this at the conclusion of the project in 2018.
