The Bedford Park Summer Exhibition

 

An exhibition of works by local artists of all ages. All works are for sale and a third of the proceeds go to the Festival charities. (NB: We cannot accept credit cards).
Opening Times 10.30am–6pm daily, except Sunday 10 June: 11.30am–6pm. NB: Last viewing day Friday 15 June. St Michael's Church, admission free, catalogue £1.
Saturday 9 June - Friday 15 June BEDFORD PARK - 40 YEARS ON An update of the 1967 exhibition on Bedford Park architecture, which led to the area's listed status and preservation. Dr DW Budworth revisits the work of the late Tom Greeves and John Betjeman, with pictures and cuttings.

Neil Brand, the doyen of silent film pianists (Paul Merton's Silent Clowns and Room 101), introduces and accompanies the hilarious Buster Keaton classic, Sherlock Jnr.

Wednesday 13 June CELEBRATING THE 'THIRTIES An evening of "Thirties" poetry, hosted by local poets Anne-Marie Fyfe & Cahal Dallat with special guests, BBC correspondent Fergal Keane reading Louis MacNeice (on his centenary) and Jill Balcon reading the poems of her late husband, Poet Laureate C. Day-Lewis. Bring your own favourite "Thirties" poem to read (30 lines max!), whether it's about the 1930s, 1830s, 1530s or even your own 30s and after; try our prize-quiz and enjoy verses chosen by others.

Thursday 14 June MORECAMBE & WISE AT THE
CHISWICK EMPIRE

In the late Forties, Eric and Ernie were on their uppers, living in a boarding house behind the old Chiswick Empire. The Guardian's comedy writer William Cook – who edited Eric Morecambe's diaries – previews his biography of their early years, out this autumn. With video and illustrations.

TWO GENERATION JAZZ After last year's two-generation triumph, Sandy Burnett, bass player, is back with another evening of accessible, adventurous modern jazz. He's rejoined by guitarist Phil Lee and pianist Craig Milverton, with Jonny Spall making his St Michael's debut on saxophone. Also back to open the evening is the young Twyford Jazz Band - the two bands will combine for a closing jam session.

Saturday 23 June BEDFORD PARK FILM FESTIVAL Bedford Park is preserved not just physically but on celluloid – from home movies of early Green Days and Father Kevin's wedding, to TV's Betjeman and Me and Plain Jane, to cinema's Nuns on the Run. To mark the Festival's 40th anniversary, Torin Douglas presents the most nostalgic, informative and hilarious clips, witha fish and chip supper.
